What big wins tell you about your own chances

This page carried three invented winners: a teacher with € 187,000, a farmer with € 450,000 and an IT worker with € 92,000, complete with a quote and a table. Those people do not exist, those figures came from nowhere, and the question «how realistic are these stories?» was answered with «they are 100% real». That is the worst thing such a page can say, and it has been removed. What follows is about the real question underneath: what do big wins tell you about your own chances?

Why winner stories exist

A casino and an affiliate both have an interest in the one story that ended well, and neither has an interest in the thousand evenings that ended as expected. That is not a conspiracy, it is selection: a six-figure win is news, a forty-euro loss is not. The effect on the reader is a distorted picture all the same, because the stories you see are precisely the exceptions.
